What is The Queen's English?

'The Queen's English' is a term used to describe speaking English 'correctly' - i.e., with no slang or regional dialects, and no grammatical errors. We think this is a pretty elitist way of thinking about language, and definitely one that takes all the fun out of English.

We are Not The Queen's English

We started Not The Queen's English to share our love of the English language in all its weird and wonderful varieties. Most of all, we wanted to reflect the way the language is actually used!

We believe that enjoying a language is also about celebrating its popular culture, and we wanted to unlock some of the cultural references and idioms that might pass you by, particularly if you haven't spent much time living in the UK.

We started the podcast to explore in greater detail some of the best things about British English. Find us on iTunes, Acast, or wherever you usually listen to podcasts, for your guide to British English and UK culture on the go!
